TIMES HONGKONG, JAKARTA – The Hajj 2024 pilgrimage is a sacred journey undertaken by millions of Muslims worldwide, and for elderly pilgrims, the experience can be both spiritually fulfilling and physically demanding.
"The elders' comfort has become my main considerabele," the Minister of Religious Affairs Yoaqut Cholil Qoumas stated.
Recognizing the unique needs of elderly pilgrims, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has implemented various measures to provide them with special care and assistance throughout their Hajj journey.
Allocation of Companion Quota for Elderly Pilgrims
Kemenag has allocated a special quota for companions of elderly pilgrims. This allocation is deemed crucial in assisting pilgrims in fulfilling their Hajj rituals, especially concerning their physical and logistical needs.
Priority Seating on Flights
Elderly pilgrims will be assigned priority seating (business class) during flights, both to and from the Holy Land, ensuring their comfort and convenience during travel.
Elderly-Friendly Hajj Exercise
Kemenag has introduced Hajj exercises tailored to the needs of elderly pilgrims, featuring gentle movements aimed at maintaining their fitness and health throughout the journey and during their stay in the Holy Land.
Manasik Guidance and Priority Services at Hajj Accommodations
Manasik guidance is prioritized, considering leniency and a brief duration (maximum of 30 minutes and two briefings). At Hajj accommodations, priority services such as special menus and placement on lower floors are provided for elderly pilgrims.
Seat Placement on Flights
Kemenag has issued Circular Letter No. 2 of 2024 from the Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah regarding the Mechanism of Clustering and Preparation of Pramanifes. This circular regulates the placement of elderly pilgrims on business class seats, priority seats, or seats in front rows on aircraft.
Mechanism for Clustering Elderly-Friendly Groups
Hajj clusters are organized, taking into account familial ties, relatives, regions, ethnicities, languages, and the health status of elderly pilgrims.
These initiatives by Kemenag underscore the commitment to ensure that elderly pilgrims receive the necessary support and care during their Hajj 2024 journey. By prioritizing their needs and comfort, these measures aim to enhance the overall experience of elderly pilgrims and facilitate their spiritual journey to the Holy Land. (*)
