JAKARTAThe Indonesian Hajj Affairs Office (Daker) in Madinah has strengthened its commitment to inclusive pilgrimage services by deploying dozens of specialized personnel dedicated to assisting elderly and disabled pilgrims during the Hajj 2026 season. The initiative reflects a broader effort to ensure that vulnerable pilgrims can perform their religious duties safely and comfortably.

Approximately 80 officers have been stationed across seven sectors in Madinah, including key areas around the Prophet’s Mosque. These personnel are specifically assigned to provide support ranging from mobility assistance to emergency response services.

Head of the Elderly and Disabled Services Section, dr. Andarisukma D. Rahmalia, emphasized the structured deployment of these officers. “For elderly and disabled services, we have placed officers in sectors 1 to 5, as well as in the special sectors of Nabawi and Bir Ali. The total is around 80 personnel,” she said Tuesday (21/4/2026).

In addition to these officers, 11 members of the Crisis Handling and First Aid Team (PKPPJH) have been positioned in strategic locations, particularly around the Nabawi area, to respond to emergency situations involving pilgrims.

The services provided go beyond medical care. Officers are also responsible for handling non-medical issues such as lost pilgrims or misplaced belongings. Coordination plays a crucial role in ensuring effective service delivery, as teams work closely with health officers, group leaders, and pilgrim protection units.

Mobility support has also been prioritized. Wheelchairs are prepared and distributed based on the needs of arriving pilgrim groups. “For example, if 10 wheelchairs are needed, we will prepare them accordingly,” Andarisukma explained on the same day.

To further strengthen healthcare services, five medical posts have been established around the Nabawi Mosque area. These posts are equipped to handle minor health complaints as well as provide immediate first aid when necessary.

This initiative aligns with broader preparations undertaken by Indonesian Hajj authorities. Previous training programs for Hajj officers have highlighted the importance of comprehensive care, including physical, social, and psychological support for elderly pilgrims, many of whom have pre-existing health conditions.

Globally, the management of Hajj services has increasingly emphasized inclusivity, particularly as the number of elderly pilgrims continues to rise each year. Saudi Arabia and participating countries have invested in infrastructure and personnel to accommodate these needs, ensuring that the pilgrimage remains accessible to all.

With integrated services and cross-sector coordination, Daker Madinah aims to provide a safer and more comfortable pilgrimage experience. The presence of dedicated personnel and enhanced facilities demonstrates Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to serving its pilgrims with care, dignity, and efficiency throughout their spiritual journey in Hajj 2026.
